This study was designed to compare the effect of two instructional approaches on the learning of basic principles in clothing construction. The problem was to determine whether students who are helped to form concepts related to the geometric principles involved in clothing construction demonstrate greater ability in constructing a garment than students who are taught without specific reference to these underlying basic principles.
