Abstract

The purpose of this investigation was to present the findings of recent research related to the self-concept and the teacher's role in improving it. This paper deals with these questions: (1) What are the present and popular ideas relating the elementary school child's self-concept to his academic success? (2) How can the teacher prepare herself to help her students grow in self-esteem? (3) What are some programs that can be used in the classroom to improve self-concept?
