Abstract

The problem of the culturally disadvantaged child is an overpowering one. The child cannot be studied in isolation. There are too many factors involved and too much interaction of one factor with another. This paper will review historical studies as well as recent research in an attempt to identify the directions taken in helping the culturally disadvantaged child cope with the white middle-class school situation in which he finds himself.
