The purpose of this research paper is to present a plan for the teaching of reading within the language arts classes of the seventh grade. A team approach will be used. The reading specialists in the junior high school can upgrade the reading in these language arts classes by their work with the teachers. Research indicates that reading must be taught by the content area teachers in secondary school. Because the job of planning a program for each content area in junior high would be too large, this writer will propose the plan for seventh grade language arts as a model which might be used in other content areas.
