The purpose of this paper is to study the role and function of a reading committee and to set up such a committee for the Diocese of Birmingham in Alabama. The problem will include a review of the literature written on the subject which is rather limited, therefore, the writer has used first hand information from persons who have helped to form a committee or in some way worked with the committee. Besides a review of the literature, on the subject, it is the aim of the writer to set up a committee for the Diocese of Birmingham. The committee will serve approximately five thousand seven hundred students, one hundred ninety teachers and twenty-five elementary schools.
